Long ago there lived a man who had two wives and two daughters, one daughter from each wife. The family lived together happily, and the girls played together. Bisi who was the daughter of the first wife was fond of bullying her younger sister Ranti like her mother. Ranti would go crying to her mother and tell her how she wished to heart Bisi just like Bisi had hurt her. Ranti remained good and always showed love in return no matter what Bisi did to her. One day, Ranti’s mother passed away after a long illness. Without her mother, She would wake up early in the morning, placed a water pitcher on her head and walk to the river for water. Her list of chores stretched out until dusk, and she would become exhausted. One morning, as she made her daily trip to the river, she saw an old man sitting by the river. He looked pitiful covered in sores she went near to him and said, Can I help you? He wanted some water. She gave water and washed his wounds. Then the old man said, “Dear child, you have a wonderful heart, and you deserved wonderful things .”He told her to go to a garden near the river where she would find two trees -one with golden fruit and the other one with rotten fruit. He told her to take one of the rotten fruits, and she should break open the fruit at home. She did as instructed by the old man. As soon as she broke the fruit, riches beyond her image appeared. When Bisi discovered this, she insisted Ranti to tell her where she got the riches from. Next morning Bisi she picked up a pitcher and headed to the river. The old man was there. She asked about the magic garden. The old man showed her the garden with the same instruction. She was so greedy that she picked a couple of golden fruits and went on her way. When she reached home, she went into her bedroom, and she threw the nuts hard at the floor to break them, but instead of riches, snakes, worms, rodents, and so many horrible things appeared.
